Office Of Career Guidance And Development (OCGD)
We’ll help you prepare for the real world !
Studying medicine doesn’t mean you have all the answers about your career.
In fact, we realise that as a medical student it is not as straightforward as some people would think. You have a number of key decisions to make along the way and finding the right path requires careful thought and planning, as well as accessing accurate, up-to-date information and advice.

The Center provides one-on-one career coaching and resources to help medical students make informed decisions and plan their medical school years and beyond. Career advising is available on an individual basis and through a variety of programs, workshops, and specialty student interest groups. Career advising is also provided by OCGD advisors and through the AAMC-sponsored Careers in Medicine Planning Program.

Medical Career in USA, Canada or Europe without FMGE/NExT/USMLE
Going through medical school is not only grueling, but also involves a steep financial investment. Many students may find themselves struggling to keep up with the pressure of being a doctor during their USMLE/FMGE preparation. There’s a lot of stigma around being unable to reach the finish line, but there really is no shame in choosing to quit your goal of becoming a doctor and pursuing another line of work. Students who have graduated with an MD degree are smart, capable, knowledgeable and highly skilled. Their skills can be used in other fields.
Doctors perform 5 kinds of work: 1.Clinical, 2.Research, 3.Education, 4.Administration and 5.Management. Student only need medical license to do clinical work. Any of the others may be open doors to a great number of career opportunities.
OCGD adviser provides a wide range of information and resources to students and clarify their ideas and generate options to explore further. There are many factors (e.g. interests, values, abilities, degree requirements, and career expectations) involved with planning a medical career and OCGD adviser can assist students in understanding each of those factors and help in the decision making process.
For example, some students really enjoy the problem-solving or analytical aspects of medicine, whilst others get most satisfaction from working closely with patients.
