Department of Educational Enhancement (DEE)
The Department of Educational Enhancement (DEE) plays a key role in supporting all students for professional and individual.
The DEE provides services and activities that assist students in the development of organizational skills and effective study habits, time management, note-taking skills, improve student performance, and advance instructional goals for learning, retention, and curriculum progression. Most fundamentally, DEE assists students individually and in groups as they prepare for course and licensure examinations.

Our Mission is to promote our university culture that values effective teaching and meaningful learning. We collaborate with faculty, peer tutors, as well as academic and student support units to enhance teaching and learning in online and face-to-face settings.
Our services focus on developing a continuous improvement process for faculty and learning facilitators that is reflective and iterative in nature. We know that teaching and learning are lifelong arts and our programming is designed to build capacity and foster innovation.

Your Personal Advising Team
Department of Education Enhancement (DEE) coordinates a variety of academic supports that will enhance your journey to becoming a successful physician. Throughout your time as a student, DEE adviser will monitor your progress and provide proactive outreach when you need it.
Faculty Mentoring from the Start
As a CUCOM student, You will regularly meet with faculty advisers to identify your strengths and plan your path through medical school. Together, you and your faculty mentors will develop individualized study plans for coursework and exams.
Personalized Advising
Students are assigned an Advisor by the first-year campus and follow the College and House model. Advisors provide advice and guidance to ensure students are meeting milestones for graduation. Throughout your time as a student, adviser will monitor your progress and provide proactive outreach when you need it.
Time Management Assistance
Time management is an essential element for all students who want to attain their highest level of academic success. Students can receive information on how to create a realistic schedule that includes not only time for studies, but also the important daily needs necessary for creating a balanced student life. (Yes, there really can be time to eat, sleep, and have a little fun.)
Academy for Teaching and Learning
DEE adviser help integrate academic support throughout your five-year curriculum. From your preclinical course to FMGE/NExT/USMLE preparation and beyond, your journey through CUCOM will include intentional touch points at critical moments, ensuring that you have the resources you need to unleash your full potential.
Group Study Sessions and Tutoring
DEE adviser host a range of large and small group sessions to complement the medical science curriculum. These include multidisciplinary boot camps, organ-system-based formative assessments before exams, concept clarification sessions after exams, peer tutoring, FMGE/NExT/ USLME® Step Exam preparation, and remediation courses.
Preparation for FMGE/NExT/USMLE
As a CUCOM student, you will automatically be enrolled in our Pathways to Physician course, which includes personalized advising and tutoring sessions as well as group reviews of FMGE/NExT/USMLE® practice questions to help you prepare for the Comprehensive Basic Science Exam and USMLE® Step 1.
Medical Academic Communication Program
The Medical Academic Communication (MAC) Program supports the development of skills necessary for medical student success, including communication skills, cultural competencies, critical thinking, medical terminology, and reading strategies for successful test taking.
MAC Helps Students Build Communication Skills.
Clinical communication
- Communicating with patients and their families as an empathetic professional in a culturally appropriate manner
- Developing awareness of cultural and professional expectations and norms for clinical communication
Academic communication
- Engaging with professors and peers professionally, orally, and in writing
- Honing skills such as: developing arguments, participating in small groups, building medical terminology, analyzing MCQs, dissecting arguments
Professional communication
- Presenting yourself as a professional orally and in writing
- Developing awareness of North American cultural norms for communicating professionally
English Language & Communication Support Programs
