Clinical skills development
Students begin to develop and refine their clinical skills, the essential elements of “doctoring” that physicians use during patient encounters. In Clinical Skill, students learn to communicate with patients, families, and other members of the care team; examine patients; develop clinical reasoning skills; and understand the important role of a student-doctor in a patient’s care. Students are also introduced to point-of-care ultrasound. Throughout Clinical Skill, emphasis is placed on taking a patient-centered approach to care.

Quality matters, especially when it comes to your education. CUCOM is proud to announce that we are in an elite category of being accredited by the principal accrediting body that operates in the Caribbean.
As a CUCOM graduate, you’ll be eligible for FMGE/NExT conducted by NBE, India and Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates® (ECFMG®) certification and can apply for U.S. and Canadian residencies and licensure.

The path through medical school is both exciting and challenging—which is why Office of Career Guidance and Development (OCGD) created. Even before your medical school journey begins, you’ll find a rich network of academic support resources at CUCOM.
The office is staffed by faculty and alumni who can advise students on preparing for licensing examinations and offer counselling in specialty and residency selection, as well as the residency application process in the United States and the United Kingdom.
